BCS IT User Certificates
The British Computer Society offers two additional qualifications that incorporate units mapping directly
onto ECDL modules. See BCS website for information.
BCS Level 1 Certificate for IT Users
BCS Level 1 Certificate for IT Users is designed to give an initial overview of computer use for
candidates wishing to gain a qualification. The qualification is made up of three units which have a
direct mapping to the European Computer Driving Licence for the following modules.

BCS Level 2 Certificate for IT Users
The BCS Level 2 Certificate for IT Users is designed to give a more in depth knowledge and
understanding of computer use for candidates wishing to gain a qualification. The qualification is made
up of five units. Certain units of the qualification map directly to ECDL modules.

What is Unit E?
Unit E – Using IT requires the candidate to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of a series of
theoretical elements such as legal issues associated with computing, health and safety and good
practice. Additionally the candidate will be required to demonstrate their understanding of integration
between computer applications and the relevance of each to everyday tasks. This unit is assessed
using a multiple-choice test which is externally marked by the BCS or by an automated test.
